NASA Art Work : Kick Start | Summer Learning Journey

Today I have completed the first activity of the Summer Learning Journey. I decided to do the step it up activity. For this activty I needed to pick a image to colour and find a fact about the image. The image I chose is a view of the Space Shuttle Discovery landing after a space station mission. Lastly I created my DLO by showing the orginal image and my re-coloured imaged and my fact below the both images. I found this task fun because I was able to learn some facts and get to know a little bit more about NASA.

Who Am I ?

 LI:To find information that answers your questions and tell us about an important person in history in your own words.

Our task was to use our smart searching skills to find information about historical figures such as Nelson Mandela. We had to do at least 5 or more. I really enjoyed this task because we got to learn so much information about people he went down in history. This historical figures could help motiviate people like us to have a sucessful future.

For this task we had to create a advertisment for a console company to sell their product. I did a advertisment for the PS4 Pro. I did advertisment for the playstaion company because it's the only console I have expirence with. 

Cinquain Poem

 LI: To make a cinquain about our favourtie online gaming character

For this task we had to make a cinquain poem about our favourite online gaming character. I made my cinquain poem about scratch which is a fortnite skin. Scratch is my favourite skin from fortnite because I like the design and look of the character.

Loot lake

LI:To paint a picture with your words to describe the setting

For this task we had to write what we would do if we were in loot lake right now. In the DLO you could see what I would do. I enjoyed this task because I got to explain my stragtey when landing in loot lake.

Character Profile

LI: To describe your favourite online gaming character.

For this task we had to create our own character using the make fortnite skins site. After creating the character we made a detailed description about our character . I enjoyed this task because I found really fun to customize my own skin.

25 word summary

LI: To explain what V-bucks are in exactly 25 words

For this task we defined what V-bucks are in a 25 word summary. V-bucks is a in game currency used to purchase items in the game fortnite. I found this task easy because I know quite a lot about V-bucks.

History of Manga

LI: To read for meaning and understanding

Our challenge today was to complete a reading comprehension about the history of Manga to show that we are reading for meaning and understanding. Our final challenge in this activity was to create a DLO to share the information we found out.

A fact I found interesting is that manga is read from right to left. I found this facts interesting because normally you read a book from left to right.

Our challenge today was to use our smart searching skills to create a DLO in our own words that tells us about the life of our favourite manga artist or a well known manga artist.

A fact I found interesting about Akira Toriyama is that he has a net worth of $45 million dollars. I found this interesting because it shows if you put the time and effort great things would happen to you.

Summarising fantastic fish

 L.I: To summarise a text

For reading with Mrs Linda we read fantastic fish. It’s about different unique fish. Fiish have three different fins. They are the dorsal fin which keeps the fish from rolling over, the tail fin which pushes the fish forward and the pectoral fish which helps the fish steer. 


Some interesting facts we found were that fish have three different types of fins. Mudskippers can live out of the water and a manta ray has a wingspan about 7 metres across. 


We found this activity fun and interesting because we found out the different uses of the fins and there are some fish that don’t look like fish for example the seahorse and the mudskipper. This was an enjoyable activity.


Hauora

L.I To show our understanding of hauora in context

Atheletes at the top of their field is to train, menteally, physically and to have an good mindset to keep you motivated, also to have an good minset, This week LS2 have been learning and understanding about the Hauora Walls ( Taha Tinnana, Taha Wairua , Taha Hinerengo , Taha Whanau ). Having the four walls standing is being successful , victory , reperseting your country, losing one wall makes you feel unsuccesful, low self esteen, embarrassed and lost of motivation.

Mindfullness Reflection #1

LI: To focus on your mind

This week Panmure Bridge School is learning about Pause , Breathe and smile. We first started off by understanding the red zone and the green zone. The red zone is the Angry , Worried , Frustrated, Overly Excited and many more emotions. Green zone is when you are feeling calm, balanced, and other peaceful emotions.

\We did this session to learn how to stay calm and control our emotions. Today we did mindfulness breathing, we closed our eyes and Mrs Anderson rang the singing bowl.

How did you feel at the end of the session? How I felt at the end of the session is really calm , relaxed and focused on what's happening right now instead of worrying about what's happening last night, yesterday , and tomorrow.  It helped me focus on myself and control my emotions thats going through my head(Mindset).

 This week for reading we had to draw 3 meadals(Gold, Silver, Bronze) on a google draw. We made medals becuase of the huge sports event olympics which is happening in Tokyo Japan right now. 

Current events

 This week for reading we did a current event about olympics. 

First I found an article on kiwi kids news. 

Then I had to answer why, when, what, where about the article.

Tech

Today at tech, we were learning about acids and bases. 
We had red paper and blue paper cutted in dice. 
We put the red and blue litmus paper in each lquid witch we had to see if it would change colour. 
I've learnt that liquids can change things colour.

Super Fingers Competion

 LI: To recall time tables

This week Mrs Anderson’s group made a competition named superfingers to see who could recall the fastest times tables. We made a bracket draw to see who was playing against each other. The winner from each game would move to the quarter finals. The winner of the quarter finals would proceed to the semi finals and the semi final winners would proceed to the finals. We also added wildcards to the game which were Micah and Vayan. I unfourntaley I lost my first game against Kruse.

Science- Topic 4/ floating & Sinking

 L.I: To expierement with heavy and light objects to see if it floats

Today for science we recorded the buocany of the object we were given.  First we talked floating, sinking and semi floating.

After talking about the information we knew about floating and sinking we started our expierements. 

We checked the size,weight ,composition and we made a prediction. For the first expirement most of the objects sunk. For the second expirement most of the objects floated and semi floated. 

I enjoyed this because of the part where we had to check if it floats or not.

Cinquain

LI: To write a cinquain poem to describe a sports star

 We have been learning to write cinquain poems to help us strengthen our connections to description. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.

I enjoyed this activity because I learnt new words like ruler.

Reading Pathway

 LI: To show personal journey through books.

This week is book week at Panmure Bridge School, which means every class participates in a number of reading activities. One of our activities was to create a reading pathway that shows how my favourite books have changed over time. At the moment I like reading avatar because I find the book really interesting.

Cockroaches

  L.I: To summarise and understand text.

This week we summarised and discussed about a non fiction text called Cockroaches: Born Survivors. This text is about information of a cockroach but it’s mainly about how a cockroach survives.

For our activity we had to find 20 import words and choose 6 most important words. Then we put those 6 most importants into a summary. 

Cockroaches have two long spiked tails called Cerci. The cockroaches also like to hang around dark and warm places until it's night. The characteristics of a cockroach is that they are really fast and they can detect danger by their wind sensors. An interesting fact that our group found out about cockroaches is the fact that cockroaches lived on earth over 300 million years ago.

We found this activity interesting because we learnt many different things about cockroaches and had fun when learning.

Cockroaches detect danger by using their cerci and wind sensors. They are survivors because the use of their special sensors help them avoid many predators.

Soccer

 On Wedsnady some of the people from LS2 and others stundents of PBS went to Milldis farm to play Soccer. When we arrived our team practised both dribbling and passing. Our first game was against Ruapotaka. It was a really enjoyable game but we lost 3-1. Our next game was against Stonefields. It was a really competitive game. We ended up losing 5-1.  The next game didn't happen because the school we were supossed to play was Glen taylor, unfortunately they didn't come. Our 4th game was against Sylvia Park school. It was a real fun and enjoyable game. The score was 2-2. Our last game was aginst PBS group B. The score was 3-1, we ended up lossing. 

This tournament was really fun and enoyable. This tournament really tested our team work.

Pulley

 L.I To use our smart searching skills to find out about pulleys. 

These DLO's showing above is about an Diagram showcasing an Labelled Diagram about an Inclined Plane , Screw and a Pulley. We did this by reading and understanding the meaning , and watching video , we also did this by writing down notes to help us create our summary. In my group I worked with Te Raumati , Tyson , Moti and Liletina. We also created an 25 word summary that helps the readers understand what is an Inclined Plane , What is an Screw and What is an Pulley. We also really enjoyed finding images and tracing them out to help us create our Diagram, then we also labelled our drawing's to make it easier for our readers to understand.

For this task I liked learning about Isaac Newton , and finding about what he did to become one of the most famouest scientest in the world.

Camp collage

 This week LS2 have been celebrating our camp. I created this collage to show my time at camp and the activities I enjoyed. To make my collage effective I thought about the size of the images, the angle of the images and I tried hard not to leave any gaps between the photos.

I found this activity fun because because looking at these photos just reminded me of the fun meomeries I had at camp.

Marc | Duffy Role Model Assembly

L.I: To have a fun experience during the Duffy Role Model Assembly. 

Today was Panmure bridges schools first Duffy assembly  of 2021.  Marc and Karen from duffy in schools came in and Marc was telling us a story about how his life was hard, when he was young and how it was hard for him in his school days. He told us that when he was young kids used to bully him because the teachers used to put him up in front of the school and make him read. Marc used to read from his right to his left he got bullied for that. This was a fun and cool experience to learn about his story.

For this activity we made a DLO of how to behave on the bus. We could make a video or just write the sentences down. When doing the DLO we couldn't use words like no, not or dont/do not.

When getting onto the bus we have to make sure that we are thanking the bus driver when exiting the bus and entering the bus. When going to or on the bus make sure you are lined up sensibly.

I found this activity fun because we got to share our ideas.

 Malo lelei my name is Siale. I’m 11 years old. I’m Tongan, Samoan and part German. My favourite foods to eat are salmon sashimi . In my spare time I like to play rugby with my cousins or watch netflix with my parents. I have 1 brother and 2 sisters who I all place in a special place in my heart. My favourite sport is mixed martial arts. My favourite mixed martial arts fighter is Kamaru usman. For my goal this year is to take more risks and participate more. In the near future I would like to study Architecture.

Cybersmart


LI: To make a DLO about being cybersmart.


This week for cybersmart we made a tutorial to show how to bookmark websites. There are two ways to bookmark, one way is to click the star on the search bar. Then click done so you can show up on your bookmark bar. The second way is pressing ctrl + d, then do the same thing.


This activity was enjoyable because we got to teach others about how to make a new tab.






PB4L

  LI : To get motivated and concentration for me to learn about PB4L.

Today for our home learning  we did our PB4L in this activity we maid a DLO about keeping safe when there is a fire alarm.Why is it important to let the teacher know you are going to the bathroom, why is it important to use hand sanitiser, what to do when a fire alarm goes off and why is it important to let the teacher know before you leave the classroom. 

One reason why it's important to let the teacher know you're going to the bathroom, because if you don’t it could cause many problems. Like if there was a fire alarm the teacher wouldn’t know where you are, which would make your teacher and your parents worried.

This activity was fun and cool. We had a really enjoyable experience doing this task.

Giant Panda

 L.I: To use our smart searching skills to find information about the Giant Panda.


First we used our smart searching skills to find information about the Giant Panda. We noted down where they live, their threats, and what they eat. Also we wrote down facts we found. We used our notes to help us with the DLO that we created. 


We found this activity fun because we were researching together to find information about the Giant Pandas. It was a really enjoyable experience with each other.


What we found quite hard was not understanding what to put in the DLO but we got help from our amazing teacher Mrs Anderson.


We found three facts interesting. One fact that we found interesting was that Giant Pandas are carnivores but their diet is like herbivores. The next fact we found interesting was that pandas have to eat 20 to 40 pounds of bamboo so they can get by(manage with difficulty to live).

Why it is important to be hydrated

L.I To understand why staying hydrated is important for our health and our learning.


Hydration means you are having plenty of water and dehydration means you're losing water from your body.


Today we did an activity that’s about hydration and dehydration. We had to find information about the importance of hydration and why we are sometimes dehydrated. We used three websites to help find information. Once we found all the information we put the information into our DLO. 


The fact we thought was interesting is that water delivers nutrients to our cells. Another fact we found interesting was that water can also help our organs function properly.

Pie chart

L.I To plan and carry out a statistical investigation.


Today we did an activity using pie charts. First  we made 4 questions and then collected data by asking the four questions to people around the classroom. When we finished collecting all of the data we took the information from our paper, to make a pie chart on a google spreadsheet. We also made a chart on paper before starting the digital chart.


What we noticed is that the a lot of people's favourite color is blue. The colors red, green, and black had the same amount of votes. Pie charts are really helpful for collecting data as well.

Summary of te tiriti Treaty of Waitangi

 Today My group and I were reading about the Treaty of Waitangi. To start, we used the book that we were reading to help us create our summary about the Treaty of Waitangi. What we learned from the book is that the treaty of Waitangi is a day of celebration to remember a historical day of peace, where the treaty was signed by a big number of chiefs. In this activity we learnt about information of the Treaty of Waitangi and about why it was signed by many chiefs so New Zealand could be a part of the British Empire.

Today for the Summer Learning journey I completed the pixel art task.

I first went to the summer learning journey blog to see what was my task for today.

After watching the video about the basics of pixel art I quickly went on the website and started drawing a sun.

For my drawing I used the colours yellow, dark yellow, blue, black and white. Yellow for the sun, dark yellow for the shade of the sun, blue for the sky, black for the glasses and white to make the sun look brighter.

Summer learning journey | Tama-nui-te-ra

 Today I completed the Tama-nui-te-ra task for the summer learning journey. This task was an maori task.First I went on the summer learning journey blog to see what I have to do. I watched the video to get more information on what to do.

After wards I went to site called word art. This is what I used to create my picture. I had to list words  in Maori that mean a lot for me. Some of the words I used were: Kia kaha, whakaipo and whanau. After that chose what shape I want to use, the word layout and the font.

I found this task really fun because I get to show whats important to me the most. 



Nano girl | Build a sundial | Summer learning journey

 Today I completed this weeks Nano girl task. For this task I had to try create sundial. A device that shows the time of day by the position of the shadow cast onto a marked plate by an object with a straight edge.

First I watched a video that Nano girl made to show how to make a sundial. I used cardboard and tape.Instead of using regular tape, I used duck tape because I didn't have any other tape I could use.

 Then I made my shapes by drawing a circle and a right triangle on the cardboard. After that I used scissors to cut out the shapes. I used tape to stick my right triangle onto the circle. Afterwards I wrote 2 different times. One that the tells the time when I should wake up, and another which tells what time I should go to sleep.

Then I tested my sundial using my torch. It was quite interesting because I wondered how did people think of this thousands of years ago. I surprise some that was used thousands of years ago, stills work.

This task had to be one of the most fun task I've done yet.

Summer learning journey | Saying happy new years in different languages

 Today I completed the happy new years in different languages task.

In different languages we had to say happy new year.We had to used 5 languages.

The languages I used to say happy to celebrate the new year were: Tongan, German, Dutch (Netherlands), Samoan, and Hawaiian.

The Polynesian languages I knew because my Mum and Grandma are Tongan, Samoa and Hawaiian. The both of them started teaching me when I was a little baby. 

The European languages I knew because when I was little my Grandfather used to teach words bit by bit in German and a little bit of dutch.

I found this task easy because most of these languages I learnt how to speak in them from family members.
