BFB/ Basic Facts boxes

Today for basic facts I did up to 10 speed demon. I did really well I got 3 minutes and 21 seconds. I got some of them correct and some of the top ones wrong. I think I need to try more harder.

SSR Selfie

For SSR selfie my book was 100 scientist who made history. I learnt that science is one of the biggest things in history.

Commenting

For commenting I commented on Kruse's blog post about swimming. I first commented my thoughts on the blog post. Then I thought of 2 dialogic questions that I think he will reply to.

Identifying punctuation

For writing we had to do 2 task.

The overall task was to identify and use punctuation in sentences.

The first task was identifying punctuation. I moved the correct symbols and sentences that matched the punctuation.

The second task was trying to use all of the punctuation in as few sentences as we could. I had six sentences using all of the punctuation.

I found all of these task very interesting because now I know how to use all punctuation when i'm writing.

LI. To identify the correct use of different punctuation

Solving Strategies

For maths we had to use different strategies to solve a equation like 84 - 7. The strategies my group used were repeated addition/multiplication, number line, written algorithm, addition and subtraction, counting backwards and division. A strategy is a plan to solve something.

For example 82 - 44. The strategy I'll use will be subtraction. Firstly I'll minus 2 from the 82 to make 80. Next I'll minus 40 from the 80 to make 40. Lastly, I'll minus 2 from the 40 to make 38.
Which means 82 - 44= 38.

Another example 5x5. The strategy I will use will be repeated addition. So I'll first do 5+5+5+5+5 because the equation is asking you to add 5, 5 times. Which means 5x5= 25

Reading

For reading we learnt about inferring/infer. Inferring is when you guess facts or observations.

For reading we did 2 tasks. The task is where we had to write a opinion. Then we had to guess what fact happened in the book that describe the opinion. We made 2, 1 for Rahi and 1 for the Patupaiarehe.

The next task we did called character trait. A character trait is where you talk and summarise what your character has done. For Example: In the book Rahi saved his wife. I also had to guess what Rahi did that was campassionate.

Swimming

For our first session of kiwi sport/swimming we learnt about different swimming skills.

For swimming I learn 4 different skills. The skills I learnt were streamline kicking. I did a streamline by putting my arms near my head.

Then I practise doing freestyle . For freestyle I just showed my swimming ability.

Then I did a submersion where I had to put one arm over another and then I repeated it.

After that I practised a Frog kick/Butterfly kick. I had to make sure my legs help me boast so I could swim.

I had a amazing and fantastic time at the Lmca Pools.

Tongram

Today I learned how to make a tangrams. I rearranged the pieces to make animal shapes.

First I made a square piece of paper because tangrams are made from a big square.

Then I folded the square into various shapes and cut them out.

Lastly, I tried to make different animal shapes from the tangrams pieces.

Making a tangrams was a amazing experience because I didn't know your could make paper triangles in to one big square.

Reading

LI: To learn what visualising is

This week we were visualising a story called The legend of Rahi. We had to draw six images in six boxes about the story. In each boxes was an image. Each image talk about different parts of the story.

What is visualising?
Is where you draw a image about a book you read so you could remember what the was about.

I think it's a good skill because you can just draw a image quickly and remember the book.

Procedural text | Writing

For writing we learnt about procedural text.

We first looked at different procedural text types like cooking and baking.

The structure of a recount is TEMPS (Title, End result, Material, Pictures and Steps).

I first broke my task into steps. My task was to make sandwich.

Next I used verbs in the beginning of every step. The verbs I used  were specific to the action.

Then I finish off  writing all my steps. In a step you only use third person or second person.

After that I used pictures that matched each step.

Lastly, I wrote a list of ingredients so you know what you need in this sandwich.

Adverb

What is an adverb?

A adverb is a word that gives more information about an action(verb).

Adverb also help answer to how, where, when and to what extent questions. Many adverbs describe verbs by telling how an action happens like peacefully. A sentence using peacefully: David was meditating peacefully.

Many adverbs end with L & Y. For example the word peacefully. Peace is an adjective that can describe a nouns but when you want to describe a verb,  people often use L & Y at the end to create an adverb.

Adverbs also describe when or how something happens like these words now, then, tomorrow, always and never. You can use these words to describe a verb and a adjective like walking or always.  Sentence: Yesterday I was walking to the shop.

Words such as outside, here, there, up and down can be used as adverbs to tell where something happens. Sentence:  The twin girls were playing outside.

These words barley, almost, very and extremely these adverbs can describe verbs like almost crying and they can modify adjectives like extremely cold. Sentence: Oscar was extremely cold.

Conclusion: Adverbs can help revive boring sentences.

Coding and angles

What is coding and a angle?

Coding is when you use letters, numbers and symbols to describe a certain movement. Angles are the distance turned from one direction to another. Angles could only be measured by degrees (*).

For maths we used the app called pencil code. We used the protractors to measure the angles to go to which go's to different locations (all locations are in New Zealand).
We also used the coding to help us describe a movement l For example fd which means forward. Lt which means turn left (which is anti clockwise).

I started from sky tower and then turned to the left 55 degrees. Then I went forward 360 mm to cape reinga. Then I turned to the left again 147 degrees. Then I forward 430 mm to north head.
Then I turned to the left again 63 degrees. then I went forward 378 mm to Aoaraki. Next I turned 144 degrees. Lastly I went back to the sky tower 325 mm.
