Super Fingers Competion

 LI: To recall time tables

This week Mrs Anderson’s group made a competition named superfingers to see who could recall the fastest times tables. We made a bracket draw to see who was playing against each other. The winner from each game would move to the quarter finals. The winner of the quarter finals would proceed to the semi finals and the semi final winners would proceed to the finals. We also added wildcards to the game which were Micah and Vayan. I unfourntaley I lost my first game against Kruse.

Pie chart

L.I To plan and carry out a statistical investigation.

Today we did an activity using pie charts. First  we made 4 questions and then collected data by asking the four questions to people around the classroom. When we finished collecting all of the data we took the information from our paper, to make a pie chart on a google spreadsheet. We also made a chart on paper before starting the digital chart.

What we noticed is that the a lot of people's favourite color is blue. The colors red, green, and black had the same amount of votes. Pie charts are really helpful for collecting data as well.

Maths | Averages

This week for maths we learnt about averages.

Averages is adding up all the numbers and then dividing them by how many numbers there are.

We first added up all the numbers together from each team. The blue team had 186 points, yellow had 182 points, red had 182 point and green had 174 points.

I am going to show how to get the average for 186: First you divide 186 by 9 which equals 20.7 . People usually think it will be 20.6 but your wrong. You have to round the number. To round the decimal point up it you can use the number 5, 6, 7, 8 , 9. The numbers that make the decimal point go down are 4, 3, 2 , 1.  That's why the number is 20.7 when you divide 182 by 9 .

Basic facts

Today I took the speed demon challenge on Multiplication and division. It took me 4 minutes and 55 seconds. Some of the answers I got wrong because I forget them or I don’t know them. I try get more faster and learn all of my division and multiplication.

Scientist | Maths

A scientist is a person who tries to understand how our world or other things work.

As a scientist it's crucial to use statistics and algebra. Scientist use algebra to calculate the measurements of objects and characteristics.

Statistics is where you gather the information(data), summarise it and decide what it means.  Algebra is where letters, numbers  and symbols are used to represent numbers to solve a equation.

Basic facts

For basic facts I took the speed demon challenge. I decided to do multiplication and division because I wanted to test how fast I am. My time was 5 minutes and 47 seconds. I feel like I have gone slower at my times table and division. The question hard because I was getting mucking instead of focusing.

LI: To Rapidly recall basic facts

Maths

Rounding is finding the nearest ten, hundred, thousand.

Addition and division are both strategies the are used for rounding. To round the person needs to find the mean, to find the mean get a set of numbers like 5,7,1,9,3 and then add them altogether which would make the number 25. Then divide them by the amount of numbers there are which makes 5.

Now this is were the rounding begins, if the number is 5-9 that's called high five. If the number 0-4 it's called floor four For example 21.85 then it becomes 21.9

Basic facts boxes

For basic facts I took the speed demon challenge with multiplication. My time was 4 minutes and 55 seconds. I  got no mistakes but I needed to be more faster.

BFB/ Basic Facts boxes

Today for basic facts I did up to 10 speed demon. I did really well I got 3 minutes and 21 seconds. I got some of them correct and some of the top ones wrong. I think I need to try more harder.

Solving Strategies

For maths we had to use different strategies to solve a equation like 84 - 7. The strategies my group used were repeated addition/multiplication, number line, written algorithm, addition and subtraction, counting backwards and division. A strategy is a plan to solve something.

For example 82 - 44. The strategy I'll use will be subtraction. Firstly I'll minus 2 from the 82 to make 80. Next I'll minus 40 from the 80 to make 40. Lastly, I'll minus 2 from the 40 to make 38.
Which means 82 - 44= 38.

Another example 5x5. The strategy I will use will be repeated addition. So I'll first do 5+5+5+5+5 because the equation is asking you to add 5, 5 times. Which means 5x5= 25

Coding and angles

What is coding and a angle?

Coding is when you use letters, numbers and symbols to describe a certain movement. Angles are the distance turned from one direction to another. Angles could only be measured by degrees (*).

For maths we used the app called pencil code. We used the protractors to measure the angles to go to which go's to different locations (all locations are in New Zealand).
We also used the coding to help us describe a movement l For example fd which means forward. Lt which means turn left (which is anti clockwise).

I started from sky tower and then turned to the left 55 degrees. Then I went forward 360 mm to cape reinga. Then I turned to the left again 147 degrees. Then I forward 430 mm to north head.
Then I turned to the left again 63 degrees. then I went forward 378 mm to Aoaraki. Next I turned 144 degrees. Lastly I went back to the sky tower 325 mm.

Basic facts

LI:to remember your basic facts

For basic facts I took the speed demon challenge up to 5's.My time was 3 minutes and 17 seconds.
Hopefully next time I could improve my time. If I want to improve my time I need to focus and remember many of my basic facts.

Maths

LI: To practise basic facts and drills
For maths we had to practise independents task like basic facts, drills, abacus and our group logo.
Firstly we had to make a video of us counting using an abacus.
The I did my basic facts. I did the speed demon challenge up to 5's.
I really wish to have a faster time. I found it kind of easy moving box to box.Hopefully I could have a faster time.

Vehicle puzzle/zodiac 100's board

LI: To create a 100's board using a object

For maths we were given pieces of paper which looked like Tetris pieces and a grid. It was a puzzle which we had to solve and what it means. The paper had different zodiac signs. When trying to solve the puzzle, we were given multiple clues. Later on we solved the puzzle, now we had to find out what it means. We came up with numerous ideas which were wrong. Then we found out it was a 100's board.

After that we had to create a 100's board on a google drawing, using an object like emoji's.
Next we had to make different pieces on a grid which we created. The we had to colour the pieces and put in the emoji of our object which was vehicles. In the little we placed different which were the numbers in each square of the grid. Then we had to separate each piece to see of you can solve it.

Fractions

LI: To define fractions

For maths we did fraction. What is a fraction? ( it is a whole object divided into equal pieces) What is a halves, thirds, quarters and fifths? Halves is when a whole object is divided into 2 equal pieces. Thirds is where you divided a whole object into 3 equal pieces. Quarters is when you divide an whole object , again into 4 equal pieces. Lastly fifths, is when you divide an whole object into 5 equal pieces. Using a piece of paper we find a way to make the paper be look like the fraction your doing.

Maths

LI: To use statistical and scientific methods to study the effect of wingspan and area on

For maths we had to conduct. To conduct the study we had to throw the planes and measure the distances. Then we had to create a graph to compare the flight distance and the wingspan.
Our were results were unexpected. I think what went wrong was the power of the throw and more other problems.

This week for maths we had to make paper planes. With the paper planes we had to measure the different measurement on a spreed. We had to create a spreadsheet to record the data.

Basic facts

LI: To remember your basic facts

For basic facts I did multiplication and It took me 3 minutes and 54 seconds. I was proud of myself because I got a good time. I can't wait to get a better score and hopefully it's faster. If I get a faster time that will be one of my favourite achievement's.
