Day 4 activity 2: What's in a name


For the second task of the fourth day we had to picture our selves changing our names.I was a hard choice to think of a name. My name that want to change to is Tupou.I think it's a good name because it could show that I'm Tongan. I also find Tupou a interesting nae and I think it suits me.

Day 4 Activity 1: Making a racket




For our first task for fourth day, we had to write a poster about Serena and Venus Williams. First we had to watch 2 videos to learnt some information and facts.Serena Williams is a American professional tennis player, who has won 39 single title, 14 doubles and 2 mix tittles. Venus Williams has won 27 single titles and 7 grand slam tittles.


Day 3 Activity 3: Achieving dreams




For the third ask of the day we had to write a dream job. You could write about your friends dream job or a family dream job on a google draw. On the poster (the Google drawing) I wrote about my friend Mote,dream job. His Dream job is to become a rugby star.


Day 3 Activity 2: Defying the odds


For our second task of the day we had to picture ourselves interviewing an NBA player.We had choice to interview Lerbron James,Steve Adams and a play of your choice. I picked a play of my choice. The players name is Russel Westbrook. First we had create a script.Then you had to greet that player. Then we had to make up with 5 different questions. Lastly we had to record our selves as if we were interviewing the player on screencastify.

Day 3 Activity 1 :Rugby superstars




For our first task for day 3 is called Rugby superstars. We first read some facts about Jonah lomu and Richie Mccaw who are 2 big rugby superstars. So we had to rite three superpowers we will have.
My superpowers are speed,strength and time travel.


Day 2 Activity 3: Miracle on The Hudson



For our third activity we had to read about a Mr Chesley Sullenberger. We read when he did a brave thing, like when he skim across the Hudson river. So we had to write a story or time when our selves or family did something brave. I wrote a story about me being brave. Its when I jumped off a diving board street into a 4.02 metre pool.

Day 2 activity 2: One small step for man


For our second activity for day 2 is called one small step for man, we had to write a poem about standing on the moon for the first time. We first had to picture our selves as Neil Armstrong stepping on the moon. Then we ha to picture us standing on the moon for the first time. Then put all of ideas to make the poem.


Day 2 Activity 1: Up in the air



For day 2 the activity was called up in the air. So we had to make a Venn diagram about jean batten and Amelia. We had to write the difference about the 2 and the similarity. For example one similarity is they are both international solo's and aviator. One difference is jean batten flew to England and Amelia Earhart flew across the Atlantic ocean.

Activity 3: Scaling new heights


For our third activity we had to 4 charities to make poster about. The Charities were SPCA ,OXFAM,Air rescue and Auckland city mission. My poster is about SPCA. SPCA is a company that helps 40,000 animals in New Zealand. On the site you could donate so you could help he Animal's life.

LI: To find where you are from

For the second task of the day we had to create an google maps and mark the area's where we are from.First I marked where my family are from, Tonga. Half of my family are from this village called Nukunuku and the other half of my family are from Nuku'Alofa  (the capital of Tonga).Lastly I did my place of birth.

This week we pictured our self on ship for 23 days. So we had to make a Google document we had to list 10 food items that could help on the sea trip. We had to list some reasons why that food is variable.

LI:  To recap our learning

This session for Kiwi Can was our last session. We first recapped what we have learnt through out the whole term. Next we went straight into our energiser called hot potato.In the game hot potato you have to pass the ball (the hot potato) and who ever has the ball last loses. Then we played a game called dancing cones. Dancing cones is where you dance to a song. You have to make sure you pick up a cone and put it on your head,if you don't your out. Lastly we played a game billy bop.

Fractions

LI: To define fractions

For maths we did fraction. What is a fraction? ( it is a whole object divided into equal pieces) What is a halves,thirds,quarters and fifths? Halves is when a whole object is divided into 2 equal pieces. Thirds is where you divided a whole object into 3 equal pieces. Quarters is when you divide an whole object , again into 4 equal pieces. Lastly fifths, is when you divide an whole object into 5 equal pieces. Using a piece of paper we find a way to make the paper be look like the fraction your doing.

Activity 2 : Knowing our roots

We are still finishing off the teaser week activity's from the summer learning journey. This activity we is called " Knowing our roots". What is a pepeha? ( a pepeha is a way to introduce yourself).In this activity we had to write a pepeha about you and where you are from. The pepeha could be written in any language like, Tongan, Samoan, Japanese and more.

LI: To learn about being patient

For Kiwi Can we talked about being patient in different time and situations. Next we got straight into our energiser called snap and escape. In this game their is a key word. You and your opponent have to have one hand out as flat as a pancake and one on your opponent's hand(your opponent does the same thing).

After that we got into our activity. So in this game you their are 2 teams that are standing in a line, with their arms on the person in front of them's back. Then you have to squeeze the person in front of you, shoulder. At carries along the line util the last person. The last person has to run and get a cone on a chair. Lastly we play GKQ.

For maths we had to conduct. To conduct the study we had to throw the planes and measure the distances. Then we had to create a graph to compare the flight distance and the wingspan.
Our were results were unexpected. I think what went wrong was the power of the throw and more other problems.

For writing we are using the 5 senses to write an setting description. Firstly, in our group we had to write an telling and edit it by doing an showing sentence. Before we had to make the telling sentence we had to chose which setting would our group do. We chose to do an stranded island. Kiwisport/Tennis

 LI: To learn to serve a tennis ball

For Kiwi sport we learn how to serve a tennis ball.  Serving is when you have to throw the ball vertically and hit the tennis ball to your opponent. We learnt to serve the ball by practising how to throw the tennis ball diagonally to hit a cone, and who ever got the most points won.


Food Print

LI: What is supply and demand

For inquiry we met a small business owner named Michael. She talked about her journey beginning her own company, called Food Print. She was planning to make a company for 2 years and has had her company for 6 months. What motivated her was the food waste that is happening.Food print is an app to provide food at lower prices instead of wasting oversupply when demand has decreased.
Michael's business is an social enterprise business which means, her business helps people and the planet (earth).

This week for maths we had to make paper planes. With the paper planes we had to measure the different measurement on a spreed.We had to create a spreadsheet to record the data.

LI: To learn figurative language

For writing we learnt about figurative language. Figurative language is when you say a sentence that has no literal meaning. We had to create DLO to show an example of what is figurative language. We had to use 3 characters to do the example. The figurative language we used for an example wore,metaphor,simile,personification and hyperbole.

Kiwi sport

LI: To learn to volley in tennis

For kiwisport we learnt how to volley in tennis. A volley is when hit the tennis ball to each without the ball hitting the ground. We had to buddy up with a partner and practise the forearm.
With our partner we also had to see how many time we hit the ball to each other.


Touch


This week we went to play on the memorial park to play touch against different schools.We played against Panama,Sylvia park,Pt England and Panama again. Our first game was against panama and the score was 2-1. We lost against Panama,only by one point. Our next game was against Pt England and we lost by 7 nil. Our next game was against Pt England and we lost by 6 nil. Lastly we played against Panama and we lost by three points.

Next we did our energiser, we had to play rock,paper,scissors and if you lose you have to go on your knees,but if you lose again you are out. Then we played our activity called Animal choir,in this game you are given an animal and a lyric to sing. Lastly we did points.

LI: To Respect ourselves

For kiwi we talked about treating and respecting ourselves.Next we got into our energiser which was called 4 challenges. In this energiser someone in our group has to leader. After that the leader has to read an  challenge that the group has to do. Then the leader tell's the group what they have to do. There 4 different challenges each group had to do. After that we did our activity.

Our activity was called human knot. We had to hold each others.hand in a circle, but you are not aloud to hold the person's hand beside you. Our goal was to make sure everyone was standing in  circle holding the persons hand beside you. My group was unsuccessful.Lastly we played some GKQ.

For writing we had to mark and edit the second recount we made. We had to mark our writing using the 7 parts of criteria. Which are Idea,S&L(Structure & and language),Vocab,organisation and more.
After we marked the criteria we had to show our teacher if he agree's. Then he shows us what to do,fix and edit.

LI: To Research

For maths we had to find the definitions and functions about 20 words. First we had to get into a group of 3.Next we had t create a document.Then had to create a table where it shows the information that we have found and searched. After finding all the information we had to find out what we are going to learn about over a few weeks. We are learning about planes over a few weeks.

LI: To learn Te Reo Maori

For this week Maori session we had to finish off different translation tasks. The task my group is working on are called wiki kotahi and nō hea koe. For wiki kotahi we had to translate maori words like moa and roa to English. For nō hea koe we had translate different countries to maori and ask if we are from that certain countries. nō hea koe is WIP (working in progress).

For kiwi can we are talking about why to respect others and treat yourself. Next we got straight into our energiser called versus. In this energiser we had were given two different objects or hobby's.
For we had to go to the side that the object or hobby is and try to persuade the Kiwi Can teachers.

After that we started our activity called mighty versus wisdom. For this activity we were split into 2 groups. I was in group 1. We had to figure out different brain teaser riddles. Group 2 had to do physical challenges like creating a pyramid using only their body. Lastly we did GKQ.

First we played a game where we had to add or subtract, to equal the number that we were told to add or subtract. We had to do this to remember to add and subtract when we need to.We did the same game but this time we had to do multiplication to practise and remember our times table.

Next we had to calculate the permiter and calculate the area.After that we had to add and subtract time. then we had to divide circles by grouping them equally. then we had to identify a fraction of set and add and subtract decimals.

Te o Maori

LI: To learn te o maori

First we had to get into groups in 6. The first task we did was Nga Atua. In this task we had to match the Gods to their territory. First we had to pick a God (Atua) and write down a guess that what we think their are the God of and write the correct answer.Next we did another task called Whakapakehatia: TKI. We had to watch a video answer some of the Maori words and translate it into English.

This week for kiwi can we learnt about respect. Our new theme for this term is called respect. Our new catch phrase is Kiwi can says res-p-est fined it out what it means to me.

For our energiser , we played a game called orange,apple,banana. In this game when one of the kiwi can teachers say apple you move, when they say orange move jump backwards and when they say banana you have to do a 180 degrees jump.

For our activity we played a another game called truth or lie.In this game is where a person says a truth or lie. if you think the person is telling a lie you have to go to the side where you think the person is telling a lie. if think the person is telling the truth you have to go to the side where you think the person is telling a truth.

Swimming | Kiwisport

LI: To learn water safety

For swimming we learnt to use a life jacket to see why it's used for.A life jacket is used to help you float in deep waters. First we had to swimming skill called doggy paddle. We had to use the life jacket to float and use our arms to paddle and we had to kick with our legs.

After that we did another skill we where had to paddle like we are scoping ice cream.Next we had to float on our back using the life jacket. Lastly we had do dive called a pencil dive. First you put your hand and put other hold onto the life jacket and step in to the water.

Reading | Positions

For this activity we had to use an arrow to point at a rugby positions that we think these different rugby players are. For example Jonah Lomu( the rugby player) and we had to use point to the position, for example winger. Their were 6 players and 6 position that we had to solve.


Inquiry

LI: To apply knowledge of simple machines to create a Rube Goldberg machine

For this simple machine our challenge was to turning on a chrome book.In our "simple machine" we used 2 different simple machines, which were an incline plane and a pulley.For the the incline plane 
we used rulers and for the pulley we used string and a stick.

To be able to turn off the chrome book we used a block which we thought that had enough weight which did work. I found challenging was when I was blindfold and I had to make the car go down the incline plane. Something that I will change is to make something that can go down an incline that can fit and it could go down easily,Ike a marble.

Rugby events

For this activity we had to pick 3 different historical events that happened in rugby.We had to add the most memorable events that we loved and enjoyed watching.To give more information about the event we had to add an image. For me my most favourite event that happened was when the All Blacks won the world cup for the third time 2015.


World time


LI: apply inquiry, literacy and numeracy skills to learn about the RWC.

For this activity we had to compare countries and their time zones. We had to figure the different times zones for the different countries. We had to make sure our inquiry, literacy and numeracy skills were on point to be able to do this activity.For small countries we had to tell what time it was, in their country when it was the finals kick off at 6:00 pm on the 2nd of Nov. For big countries like America and Canada we had to tell the time from the east and the west coast.

This week for writing we learning famous thneed by Dr Seuss.We had to make a television advert and a print advert on the thneed also known as the product.So my group had top start getting really creative. So first we created our television advert.my groups was Sione T,Ong,Spelman and myself. In this television advert ong was the narrator and Spelman and I was the customers and Sione T was the shop keeper. For our Print advert we had to show what the thneed does, what's the price and our Slogan.

Swimming/Kiwisport

LI: To learn about water safety

For swimming had the experience to try different skills and skills that we have learn the past 9 weeks.
First we go into doing the streamline kicking. A streamline kick is where you basically put both of your arms together, high like you are touching the roof and glide and kick.Next we had to float on our back. We had to float to the other side of the pool and comeback to where we started.

After that we had to do a skill called tummy up,chin in. We had to use the noodle again and we had to float on back,but we had to put our chin in we had to put our tummy up and then float.
Then we had to float on our back using a noodle. We had to wrap the noodle around our back and use the our hands to hold the noodle and we had to float to the other side.

Swimming/Kiwisport

LI: To learn water safety

For swimming we were practising different skills that we have learnt over the past 8 weeks.The first new skill that Susan's group had to do was following each other while swimming but we had to go one by one,which we called follow the leader .The next skill that Susan's group did was called

dolphin dives, it's basically when you dive like a dolphin. To dive like a dolphin we have to jump in he jump back out of the water and repeat that over and over again. After that we did the same thing that we first did but floating on our backs. We also went one by one.

Later on we did a challenge we who can breath under the water the longest.The first round I won, well I was breathing under water I felt like I couldn't breath but I was desperate to win.
The last skill we did was running in the water backwards. I only came 3rd every time.

That was the end of our eighth swimming session. I like this swimming session a lot.I can't wait until our next swimming/kiwisport challenge.
