Simile

A simile is a comparison of two thing using 'like', or and 'as...as'. A simile is part of figurative language.

The like simile is used with a verb. Examples using like:

The elephant toothpaste exploded like a volcano.
Oscar swims like a dolphin.
The couple danced like fire.

The as....as is used with an adjective. Examples using as....as:

The man's muscles are as big as an elephant.
The man is as smart as Albert Einstein.
Kahu is as small as a mouse.

Similes help people compare two things in a more detailed way.

Reading/ Story web/Legend of Rahi

For reading we had learnt about summarising.

What is a summarising? 

Summarising is where you talk about the main points/main idea of the text

I learnt how to summarise a text by doing story web by talking about the main ideas of the story.

In the events I used my visualising piece of paper from 2 weeks ago to help me remember each event that happened in the book.

I used my character inference to use adjectives and evidence to help summarise different parts. using good adjectives unlocks meaningful information, and I can summarise quicker.

Then I used some of my prior knowledge where I remembered the names like Te ara, Rahi and 
Tama-nui-te-rā from a game I've played called, Kia o Rahi. I found out this story is how the game was created . Then I use this information for my ending.#

      

BFB/ Basic Facts boxes

Today for basic facts I did up to 10 speed demon. I did really well I got 3 minutes and 21 seconds. I got some of them correct and some of the top ones wrong. I think I need to try more harder.

SSR Selfie

For SSR selfie my book was 100 scientist who made history. I learnt that science is one of the biggest things in history.

Commenting

For commenting I commented on Kruse's blog post about swimming. I first commented my thoughts on the blog post. Then I thought of 2 dialogic questions that I think he will reply to.

Identifying punctuation

For writing we had to do 2 task.

The overall task was to identify and use punctuation in sentences.

The first task was identifying punctuation. I moved the correct symbols and sentences that matched the punctuation.

The second task was trying to use all of the punctuation in as few sentences as we could. I had six sentences using all of the punctuation.

I found all of these task very interesting because now I know how to use all punctuation when i'm writing.

Solving Strategies

For maths we had to use different strategies to solve a equation like 84 - 7. The strategies my group used were repeated addition/multiplication, number line, written algorithm, addition and subtraction, counting backwards and division. A strategy is a plan to solve something.

For example 82 - 44. The strategy I'll use will be subtraction. Firstly I'll minus 2 from the 82 to make 80. Next I'll minus 40 from the 80 to make 40. Lastly, I'll minus 2 from the 40 to make 38.

Which means 82 - 44= 38.

Another example 5x5. The strategy I will use will be repeated addition. So I'll first do 5+5+5+5+5 because the equation is asking you to add 5, 5 times. Which means 5x5= 25
