Basic facts

For basic facts I took the speed demon challenge. I decided to do multiplication and division because I wanted to test how fast I am. My time was 5 minutes and 47 seconds. I feel like I have gone slower at my times table and division. The question hard because I was getting mucking instead of focusing.

SSR Selfie

For SSR Selfie I chose the book the Gruffalo.

The book is about a mouse and monster. The little mouse goes for a walk in the deep dark woods.
He stumbles across 3 animals which are a fox, an owl and a snake. The mouse tricks the animals by thinking the Gruffalo is real. It turns out the Gruffalo is real.

I found this book really funny and interesting to read.

Art Collabration

For art we recreated the cover of the Gruffalo.

The first thing we did was practised a shading on a small piece of paper. after that were given a big piece of paper that was a section of the cover. We used pastels to colour in. The first technique I learnt was blending. If you were doing the grass you would use use green then put white on top then you smudge the colours.

The second technique I learnt was smudging. Smudging is where you use 2 colours and mix them. To do the path/sand I used peach, gold and yellow and then I used a paper towel to mix the colours.

Doing this art was really enjoyable. Hopefully we could do another book cover.

Recount

What is a recount?

A recount is to retell something that happened in the past. A structure of recount is TREE ( Title, reveal, events and ending).

The language that is used while doing a recount is 1st person such as I , me , my , myself and mine.

On a google doc we had to write recount of one regular day in a week.

Then we had to plan the events, the title, reveal and the ending which is the reflection.

The were four events before school, at school, after school, and after dinner.

After that I started to write my recount about my Friday routine. Some of the things I do are playing games and watching YouTube on my TV.

Making a fire/ Cooking food

First we recapped on what a hazard and a risk is. A hazard is a object that can cause harm and a risk is a possibility that a hazard can cause harm. The activities we did was making a fire and cooking s'mores.

First, we started by talking about the conditions of the activities. Some of the conditions were: we are using a brazier, the fire would be lit on concrete, and there is good enough weather for the fire to be lit.

Next, we talked about the hazards and risks, and wrote the consequences. Then we found out ways we could stop those consequences from happening, and we wrote down an emergency plan of what would happen if those consequences elevated.

Then we did the same process for making s'mores over the fire.

Once the fire was lit, we were given a demonstration by Mr Ogilvie of how the marshmallows should be cooked. Mr Ogilvie told us to put three marshmallows on a skewer and the skewer was to be held vertically through the rectangular gaps of the brazier. We then added chocolate sauce if you like to and the crackers to complete the s'more.

Maths

Rounding is finding the nearest ten, hundred, thousand.

Addition and division are both strategies the are used for rounding. To round the person needs to find the mean, to find the mean get a set of numbers like 5,7,1,9,3 and then add them altogether which would make the number 25. Then divide them by the amount of numbers there are which makes 5.

Now this is were the rounding begins, if the number is 5-9 that's called high five. If the number 0-4 it's called floor four For example 21.85 then it becomes 21.9

Governing topics

What is a governing topic

Governing topics or policies are actions that political parties want to put into action when they get into power.

There are 2 topic that are important to me which are Transport and Infrastructure and education.

Transport and infrastructure
Fixing how people move around the country and how buildings are organised.

Education
Is when you learn new things such as Rounding ( Maths skill).

I voted for transport and infrastructure because it's important because my parents use vehicles on a daily basis. I voted for education because I'm still young and I'm still developing my mind set.

Risk assessment

First we recapped on what a hazard and a risk is. A hazard is a object that can cause harm and a risk is a possibility that a hazard can cause harm.We also recapped the risk levels which are low, likely, possible, elevated and extreme.

Then we wrote a safety plan on activity called risk assessment. For this task we wrote the class year level, the number of helpers, the number of students and the location. For every 10 students there is 1 helper.

Then we answered questions like what could go wrong?, how we could prevent this?

Lastly we wrote a emergency plan/solution is were a risk overcomes a much serious situation.

Rewriting a Narrative

LI: To rewrite a narrative

Rewriting is where you take a small part of story and change using your ideas. The three things that you change is the character, where the character lives and the Gruffalos favourite thing to eat.

The part I changed was the fox scene. I changed the fox to a tiger because they are both predators.
I made tiger live in a cave because caves are cold and tigers love cold temperature places. Lastly I made the Gruffalos favourite food tiger bolognese.

Making connections

LI: To identify and describe connections

Text to self is something that happened in the book which has happened to you. For example:In the of the Gruffalo the mouse was quite scared when he first met the Gruffalo.

Text to text is something that happened in the book that also happened in another book. For example: in the Gruffalo the mouse goes on a long journey to find nut. In the story Rahi and the Patupaiarehe, Rahi goes on a long journey to find his wife.

Text to world is where a text links to something we all do in the world. For example

In the story of the Gruffalo, the female squirrel found nuts for her kids to eat. Parents around the world but food for their kids to eat.
